Spyro 2 Any% Run: A Journey to Completion

As a gamer, there's nothing quite like the thrill of completing a challenging run in a beloved game. For me, that game was Spyro 2. In this article, I'll take you through my journey as I attempted to complete the any% route in under 30 minutes.

The Start of the Journey

My execution at the beginning of the level wasn't ideal, and I ended up bonking into an enemy before even reaching the first gem. Despite that setback, everything else went relatively smoothly. However, I did notice that my timing on certain jumps was off, which resulted in a slower end-level skip.

Route Tweaks and Improvements

One of the key differences between my route and the TAS (Tool-Assisted Speedrun) route is the way I collected extra gems at the start. By taking a slightly different path, I was able to grab an additional 25 gems in just three seconds. However, this came at the cost of about four seconds on the skip up to the roof.

Lessons Learned

Overall, I estimate that I could have saved around five seconds if I had executed certain jumps more perfectly. Despite this, I still managed to leave with 509 gems, while the TAS left with 521 gems. However, I was happy to trade off those extra gems for a five-second advantage.

The Rest of the Run

As I continued through the level, I made some adjustments to my route that allowed me to collect even more gems. By using a charge jump instead of a double jump to navigate through the idol's head, I was able to shave off precious seconds.

My Spyro 2 any% run took me 29:22 to complete, and while it wasn't perfect, I'm proud of the effort I put in.
